A returning employee's review is based on four factors:
Performance during previous employment
Respect for company rules and regulations
Experience gained since last season
Self-assessment of job performance
If hired, you must update your employee file with:
A recent criminal records check
Any updated documents or newly acquired diplomas
Available during the school year: Use "School Trip Camps - Returning Language Counselor" . There is only one pay level for School Trip Counselors. Click here to know more about School Trip Counselor Responsibilities.
Only available during school vacation periods: Use "Vacation Camps - Veteran Counselor". Both Language Counselors and Daily Life counselors are processed under the status of Veteran Counselor. Click here to know more about Veteran Counselor Responsibilities.
The School Trips Camp teams will all be on CDD. Therefore, it is possible to work at both types of camps, because only the Vacation Camps teams are on CEE (limited to 80 days annually).
Just like first-year employees, you can submit a location or colleague preference to us during an interview. That said, placements are assigned based on camp needs and your availability. You can see the camp locations listed next to each opening on the dates page. Priority is generally given to applicants available for the full session.
Employee preparation has three main steps :
Reviewing your hiring documents, which outline company policies and your responsabilities.
The Employee Program Manual
Completing training modules through our E-learning platform.
Attending a live webinar hosted by our Pedagogical Director
Once at camp, working with your team at camp to prepare activities, organize materials and set expectations for the session.
During Vacation Camp sessions, the HLC takes on additional leadership responsibilities and a heavier workload than other counselors. For this reason, the position includes an additional 10€ per day.
The HLC :
Works as an Activity Counselor
French is not required
Works under the supervision of a director and follows their guidance
Organizes and supports other counselors in the program
Handles some administrative tasks and manages materials

Summer Vacations : The HLC is hired in advance and assigned to a camp. A director can request a specific HLC, in order to aid recruitment.
This position is bilingual, French is required.
School Trip Camp Director : no Brevet d'Aptitude aux Fonctions du Directeur (BAFD) required.

Vacation Camp Director : a Brevet d'Aptitude aux Fonctions du Directeur (BAFD) is required. American Village offers some financing in exchange for directing the month of July. Vacation Camp Director Confirmé : Possible at 3rd year as a director. Entirely performance based. Implies mastery and independence in all aspects of the direction : flawless administrative work, French reglementation respect, team management, materials management, partnership development and client satisfaction. If you require more than a standard confirmation of employment in PDF format, you should ask your camp director to become one of your professional references.
