A Typical Day at Camp

At American Village Camps, everything we do is done to promote the integration of the English language. Each day, we put into place activities for all learning styles (Auditory, Visual, Read/Write, and Kinaesthetic).  

The organization of each day follows a standardized schedule that we call A Typical Day. This allows information to flow. 

• English classes provide vocabulary and grammar for the activities of the day. They also allow for the counselors to follow a camper's progress, through more structured classroom work.
• Recreational activities allow for the application of learned vocabulary, present cultural notions in a fun way, as well as reaching other developmental goals - teammanship, skill development, health and time outside just to cite a few.

This organization, conducted in immersion, assists and reinforces learning. The student hears and uses words repeatedly throughout the day. 

			8:15am - 9:00am: Breakfast & prep for the day				9:00am - 10:15am: English Class 1
			10:15am - 10:30am: Recess				10:30am - 11:45am: English Class 2
			11:45am - 12:30pm: Class Meeting or Break				12:30pm - 2:00pm: Lunch/Calm Time
			2:00pm - 2:30pm: Congress/Assembly				2:30pm - 5:00pm: Recreational Activities & Snack
			5:00pm - 6:00pm: Camper Free Time				6:00pm - 7:00pm: Camper Showers
			7:00pm - 8:00pm: Dinner				8:00pm - 9:00pm: Evening Program

Once at camp, our counselors will learn the exact schedule used at their location. It will be determined based on the type of camp (School Trip or Vacation). During Vacation Camps, there can also be specific activities and the director will adapt the campers' schedule accordingly.
